Honestly. At the moment, Sasha was pleasantly buzzed - not enough to be considered plastered, but just enough that walking in a straight line was quite a difficulty. He'd recently gotten paid big time to return something he'd stolen and decided, foolishly, to spend the cash on booze instead of food. Who needed nutrition, anyway? Food was for those weak-minded few that somehow managed to live their whole lives spending money on stupid things, like housing. And electricity.
Sasha didn't really remember what heavy an actual house to return to felt like. Not a house of his own, anyway - the last time he'd been in his house (because it was his house) his father had claimed that they weren't related. His own father. Just the thought of his own flesh and blood turning him out on the street made a bitter, angry bile rise up in his throat, made him want to drink a lot more. Drink the whole night, maybe. Because he was classy like that.
Having worked himself up into a mood, the surly teen pulled out a cigarette and his lighter, fussing with the lighter for a few minutes. His fingers didn't seem to want to cooperate; he spent a good five minutes attempting to light cigarette, before throwing the thing on the ground in frustration and stopping on. He came to a rather familiar door, leaning against it heavily, forehead pressed against the wood. He pressed his forehead against the cool wood, relishing in the feel of it against his flushed skin, before he knocked noisily on it.
"'Ey, Anu," he called. "I know you're in there, you - you-" He couldn't properly formulate exactly what he wanted to call Anu, but he knew that he wanted the brunette - terribly, because sometimes when he was with the brunette he could forget for a little bit. "Anu, I started thinking about it all again," he said miserably into the wood. "About my da' and the likes - and well - and I started drinking a lot and-" He didn't even know what he was saying anymore. "And Anu, I really want a cigarette but I can't get my lighter to work. So let me in, yeah?" Another day, another customer.
A puff of smoke escaped his thin lips as the man lounged about his home. The woman had already gathered her things and left. It was cute that she had been expecting to stay the night. As if. He had better things to do with his night, he thought. Like he wanted to spend it cuddling up to some woman that he personally would have paid not to sleep with. But hey, money was money. And he was willing to certainly do anything for that. He took another drag of his cigarette before moving to go to his kitchen. Damned bitch didn't even bother to get him some water. He was the one who had been doing all the work. Rude. He swung his legs over the edge of the bed, huffing for a moment before crushing the cigarette into his ashtray before standing up.
Anubis stretched his arms high above his head before scratching his back gently. He grasped the bed sheets, wrapping it around his waist before heading towards the kitchen. The dull thud of knocking had entered his ears then. Damn, was it that girl again? He groaned, rubbing the back of his head. He couldn't be rude, could he? No, he probably could. He could get away without getting fired-- no wait. Who was that? Anubis turned his head, raising an eyebrow slightly as he looked quietly at the wooden door. "Sasha, hm?"
The edges of his lips curled upward in a silly little smile. He adored that man sometimes, he thought. Granted, for the most part; Sasha always arrived at his less than lovely abode drunk. But he couldn't complain, he supposed. There were few people who could tolerate him and for that, the Egyptian man was silently thankful. He walked towards the door, bed sheets dragged along behind him. He opened the door quietly, looking down at Sasha silently. "Come here." He said softly, crouching down slightly and offering a hand to him. "What were you doing, Sasha? Thinking again?" He laughed softly. "Obviously that ends badly for you."

He had been living in the lap of luxury - and now he was crouched outside the house of a mutant mercenary, practically a jello shot away from alcohol poisoning, whining and moaning like a petulant child. But he didn't care. Like any creature of feelings, he could try and shove off the pain with indifference and cool aloofness, but he couldn't keep it hidden when the booze stripped away his inhibitions.
He looked up at the hand offered him, followed the trail of the arm to the half-naked form of his companion. He narrowed his eyes at the smart remark - he should have expected no less - and tried to stand up on his own at first. It didn't work, naturally. He practically fell over, and instead grasped the man's forearm to steady himself.
"Not just thinking, you dick," he snapped, rubbing his bleary eyes. "Oh, whatever. I don't care. Can I come in?" He didn't wait. He just nudged Anubis back, shut the door behind him with his foot, and gave a heaving. "Are you busy tonight?" he asked, giving a little hiccup and swaying. "I'm really drunk and I'm sick and tired of being alone."
He would feel ashamed, in the morning, if he remembered his sudden need for human contact when he was drunk. Oh, he could pretend that he didn't need the comfort of falling asleep next to another body, that he didn't crave another's touch; but when he was drunk, it all came out, this sudden neglect and this desire, and in the morning he would try and brush it off as nothing. I don't need it, he would say. It's just an added luxury is all. But it was a lie - he did need it, more than booze.
"Please tell me you aren't busy," the brunette said, trying to keep the misery out of his voice. "I don't want to have to leave. If I do I'll just keep drinking, I know it."[/style] | [bg=eeeeee][atrb=cellspacing,0px,true][atrb=style,text-align:justify;][atrb=padding,5px,true][STYLE=border:5px solid #ffffff; margin:5px; text-align:center;][/style] [STYLE=font-family:georgia; background-color:#e8e8e8; color:#003366; border-bottom:2px solid #ffffff; text-align:center; margin-bottom:-15px]TAG(S)[/style] anuuu ♥

He knew that it wasn't possible for him to completely understand the other's situation. Anubis had been born poor and stayed that way for much of his life. Nothing changed, nothing ever would. Consistency, he thought, was a blessing sometimes. At least he knew no such thing as disappointment if he never aimed high. Unfeeling and numb was the best words to describe him by now. He knew no such thing as love. Just another word he had never learned to pronounce. Friendships? He knew not. Though, he supposed there were times when even he was desperate for company. All human beings craved some sort of attention, he thought.
"Be careful," He said, moving carefully to help the other up. "Me? Busy? Never." He replied teasingly, lifting a hand to pay the boy on the cheek ever so gently. And by that, he most certainly did not aim for the ones on his face. "I don't think it'd matter what I say. You came in anyway." He grumbled, taking a step back as the other entered the small room. He sighed a bit, grasping the thief's hand gently. He tugged him along towards his bedroom, running his other hand through his hair. "What am I ever going to do with you?"
Anubis felt a little bad. He did, honestly. He knew sometimes Sasha would have these moments of need. He needed so much and for what? The comfort of the mercanary's used up body? It was hardly anything desirable, he thought. But as long as he wanted it, Anu would comply. It was all he could do to comfort, he realized. The brunette gestured towards his couch, glancing at the other. "Go ahead. Go lie down and start sobering up." He turned slightly, brushing his fingers over the other gently. "I can't let you hang around if you're this drunk." He wasn't quite sure what had spurred this act of kindness or when it would happen again. Maybe when he saw Sasha there, so pathetic, that something in his heart grew three sizes that day.
...nah.

To be quite honest, he hadn't really ever felt the same way about Anubis than he had anyone else. No, he wasn't getting mushy - though he was a clingy and emotional drunk most of the time - it was just that this curious combination of unadulterated annoyance and gratefulness on several occasions that made his relationship with Anubis a difficult one to decide on.
Friends? Sure, why not. He didn't see why not. If they weren't friends, Anubis wouldn't let him come here, needy and emotional and neglected, and just hang around and have sex. ... Right? Right. Definitely. That would just be ridiculous.
Sasha couldn't be sure exactly where he stood with the other man (especially considering most of the time he saw the other man drunk) but he thought they were considered friends. He didn't really know how to have friends, but he guessed that this was a pretty good place to start.
"I don't know," Sasha mumbled, shrugging his bony shoulders noncommittally. "What you usually do with me will suffice, I think." He flashed a cheeky, but half-hearted grin. He glanced toward the couch, frowning. The couch? He felt like a spurned spouse - to the couch with you, wench! or something along those lines. Probably more like you never share your feelings with me anymore or there's a space between us. There was no way he was going to sober up alone on the couch, feeling like a grounded puppy dog.
"Can't I lay on the bed with you?" he asked, brows creasing in confusion. "I'll sober up quicker if I have company."
It was a myth, of course. He didn't actually sober up quicker with company, but he liked to think he did.
"Come ooon. We're going to end up there anyway, Anu." He reached out and wrapped his arms around Anu's sturdy, slender waist, trailing his fingers along the base of the other's spine. He nestled his head in the crook of the Egyptian's neck; his lips trailed up the curvy neck, touching base briefly at his ear. "And put some pants on too, please. If he had to wake up in the morning next to anyone, he would have hoped it'd be no one. He wasn't particularly fond of any living, breathing creature. Although, these days it seemed the heaviness of their breathing in moments of pleasure was the single most interesting thing about them. People were so boring and dull these days. Always scared or in some cases, like the one he stood next to now, partied until they literally dropped. It was annoying to have to take care of him like some lost child who couldn't find his mother. But, Anu supposed, it could have most certainly been worse. He could have been ugly. Okay. Maybe that was a little mean.
In any case, Sasha hardly constituted as a friend. Granted yes, Anubis wasn't about to turn him away now when he was so helpless. And yes, the Egyptian was willing to listen to the other (although, more than often it was not voluntary). And yes, he did sleep with the other boy. But that didn't mean they were friends. They were just acquaintances that happened to sleep together. But that didn't mean anything. "What I usually do?" He replied, lips twisting into a smug little grin. "Is that what you came here for then?"
In a way, he thought, Sasha reminded him of a puppy. A poor, little, kicked puppy to be more specific. He'd complain when he was alone and he'd always be hungry for some reason. Maybe that's why he didn't have any pets. Sasha was enough to take care of. "Mm. Depends. I might let you of you tell me what's in it for me." A bed warmer, he thought. Now there was something appreciated.
"You mean, I am going to end up there." He wasn't in the mood anymore. At least not right now. He was tired, admittedly. Not to mention the fact that the other was drunk and, as he imagined, would no doubt blame him for committing the act while he was vulnerable. He only watched as the other slipped his arms around him, saying no more. Anu lifted an arm too, only to wrap it around Sasha's waist. Fingers traveled upward beneath the other's shirt and crawled along his spine. "Isn't that something of a hassle, Sasha?" He replied. "I'm tired today, anyways. I'm not up for it."

But Sasha didn't care. To be quite frank, he was just happy to have companionship that didn't include druggies or police officers asking him about things that he'd stolen. He much preferred Anu's company over the company of rats, if only because the other was much more accomodating (though a bit more moody, in his opinion) and far more attractive than a rat was.
A thoughtful - or semi-thoughtful, anyway - expression came over Sasha's face. The brunette's handsome lips twisted a bit in his thought. "No, I don't suppose that was the only reason," he replied plaintively. "I mostly came because you're the only person I know down here. Plus, I figured that, chances are, you aren't going to just turn me out on the street. Chances are good."
Kicked puppy or no, Sasha somehow still managed to remain coherent and near-thoughtful, even being entirely intoxicated. It was a skill, he thought; one developed through many nights attempting to drunkenly talk your way into and out of a bar fight (not always necessarily in that order). Not to mention dealing with people - God forbid he ever had to deal with a person when he was entirely sober and suffering from withdrawal - and their baggage that, usually, was in his possession by the end of the evening.
Sasha frowned a little, slipping his arms away and ducking out of the tangled embrace. Well, alright. No sex then. He flopped onto the bed belly-first, nestling his face into a pillow and giving a heavy sigh.
"Alright, fine," he said, tilting his head so that his words were not slurred by the pillow "We won't. But I'm still laying here. And you're laying with me." The bony, thinning man rolled over onto his back, gazing at Anu with slightly foggy-blue eyes. "And you don't have to put pants on, I guess. But you're severely disappointing me. Heart breaker." He yawned and stretched luxuriously on the bed, messy strands of dark hair trickling into his face as he settled back against the pillow.
His eyes slipped shut, but he still remained awake, pulling out a cigarette and, once more, attempting to use the lighter to get it lit. It took a few minutes - watching him struggle with the simple function of lighting a match must have been painful - but eventually he got it lit and took a deep inhale. The brunette held it, cigarette placed delicately between fore and middle fingers, and after a moment, exhaled the smoke toward the opposite direction of Anu, near the closed window.
A noisy sigh escaped the brunette. "I really ought to stop," he muttered, sitting up on the bed so as to avoid spilling ash all over it. He fumbled at the bedside, produced an ashtray; and Sasha set it on his knee, beneath where the cigarette protruded from his mouth. He glanced over at Anu. "Well? Are you going to come lay down or what? It's awfully lonely over here."[/style] | [bg=eeeeee][atrb=cellspacing,0px,true][atrb=style,text-align:justify;][atrb=padding,5px,true][STYLE=border:5px solid #ffffff; margin:5px; text-align:center;][/style] [STYLE=font-family:georgia; background-color:#e8e8e8; color:#003366; border-bottom:2px solid #ffffff; text-align:center; margin-bottom:-15px]TAG(S)[/style] anuuu ♥

He supposed all people needed some form of companionship.
Humans were social creatures. Deprive them of words and they would react with actions. And without actions, they'd probably die from loneliness. Not that it'd particularly bother him. But Sasha, he supposed, counted as a sort-of friendship. Not that he was about to admit anything. And so, for a moment. He was relieved at Sasha's next words. "Maybe I should change that," He replied, a silly little grin crossing his lips. He wouldn't throw him out onto the street, of course. He wasn't sure he could. No one, he thought, was that cruel. Except maybe his mother. But details.
Anubis only watched as he untangled his limbs from the Egyptian's before throwing himself onto the bed. "Be careful," He reprimanded. "You'll break the bed and I am not going to pay for it." So much for concern. He sighed, scratching the back his head. If it mattered that much. He walked towards his make-shift closet (which really was just his nightstand) and pulled open the drawers. He untied the bed sheet before grasping a pair of pants and pulling them on. It was uncomfortable for the moment, he thought. But it'd come off in the end so it didn't matter for now.
"Better?" He replied, crawling onto the bed. "Then stop?" How else was he supposed to reply to that? Was he going to stop with him? No chance in hell. Anu leaned on the other, quiet. "Let me just borrow your shoulder for a while." He said quickly, leaning his head on his shoulder. "You are among the neediest people I have ever known." A laugh escaped his lips once more. "Maybe I should stop babying you and you'll stop being so needy. What do you think?"

It just seemed so unfair, to crave companionship like a bad drug. He was a mutant, wasn't he? To want a companion was something so imperiously human that he thought, why do I still feel this way? If his father had enough grounds to throw him out because of his mutant blood, he wondered, why did he still feel things that humans did? Why did he still bleed? Was he really so different from his family that he couldn't even be considered anymore - and in that case, why did he still want and need and desire as humans did?
It was all very troubling, especially for his foggy, intoxicated mind, and he shut his eyes tight and furrowed his brow. Too much food for thought. His mind was swelling with the controversy of it all; this was something that was much better left for another day, when he wasn't drunk - if he could remind himself to think of it, of course. He might have forgotten it by morning.
Sasha opened one luminous eye to peer at Anubis as the Egyptian slipped close to him. He gave a little hum - tiny "Hnn" of contentment - and shut his eyes once more, smoke trilling from his lungs like breath. He sucked in a deep lungful, exhaled it just as deeply, enjoyed the feel of it burning down his throat.
"I would if I could," he replied, removing the cigarette from his mouth to tamp it out over the ashtray. The brunette tilted his head to press his nose briefly to Anu's hair - he really did enjoy the close contact, you know - and gave a little sigh.
"Nawwwww," he drawled out, shaking his head and setting the ash tray aside. "You should keep babying me. I like that idea much better." A sage nod this time, his lips pressing faintly into the dark hair before he rested back once more. He set the burned out cigarette on the ashtray and picked at the collar of his plain t-shirt. "I'm only needy once in a while, though," he amended. "You just don't know how to want from other people. It's a right proper skill, you know."
Somehow, even in his drunken state, his still managed to say something that might have been a little profound. Perhaps not for this situation - but in another, certainly his words could have had some deeper meaning. He opened his eyes and looked over at Anubis again. "Say," he began, "why do you put up with me, anyway? I'm just a burn-out."
He wasn't looking for lovey-dovey or even touching here. What spurred on the question was pure curiosity - why bother?[/style] | [bg=eeeeee][atrb=cellspacing,0px,true][atrb=style,text-align:justify;][atrb=padding,5px,true][STYLE=border:5px solid #ffffff; margin:5px; text-align:center;][/style] [STYLE=font-family:georgia; background-color:#e8e8e8; color:#003366; border-bottom:2px solid #ffffff; text-align:center; margin-bottom:-15px]TAG(S)[/style] anuuu ♥
