That's mutant scum territory, Kaizer. They're going to kill you if you go there, Kaizer. Why the hell should he believe any of this? The boy wasn't part of this war. He was on neither side and just wanted to be left alone to make money, play with his fluffy babies, and finish school. No matter who won, it wasn't going to effect Kaizer because he had no mutant blood in him and, as far as he knew, the mutants had no intention of enslaving them normal people. So Kaizer had ignored every warning that his co-workers gave him and proceeded to the lake with a large box in his arms. In that box were his fluffy babies. His six, little, yellow duckies.
Kaizer emptied the box, allowing the little fluffballs to tumble into the water. They hadn't been in a lake in weeks. It had been pool water up until Kaizer finally found the time outside of work to bring them here. No, he wasn't afraid they were going to run away. He was their mama. Ducks didn't leave their mamas. There were little quacks from all the babies and the human male smiled softly. No human got a smile from him, but these little creatures were something that he couldn't stop smiling around. With a weak sigh, Kaizer unzipped his jacket, stripping it from his body and laying it down on the sand, just out of the water's reach. He took a seat on the jacket, preventing his backside from getting sandy, and just silently watched the ducks splash and float around on the water's surface.
This was the only reason Kaizer was here. He didn't get a lot of time to relax and, sometimes, he felt like he didn't get to spend enough time with his babies. Now was his chance. The boy reached out, splashing the water to create little waves and flicking it at the birds. Some of them seemed unphased, but one wiggled around, quacking louder and swimming closer to the boy. This one was Kaizer's favorite. He shouldn't pick favorites when it came to his babies, but this one was just friendlier than all the rest. His name was Hermes- after the Greek figure, obviously- and, unlike his brothers and sisters, he had flecks of brown on his wings. Kaizer picked the little duck up and allowed him to settle comfortably in his lap. Carefully, the boy pet his fingers down the back of the bird's neck and he seemed to wiggle and lean into the touch. Kaizer was content like this. He didn't need human contact. He just needed these yellow birds.

It had nothing to do with her flower shop. And it had nothing to do with her grandmother. And perhaps because of it, she so rarely paid much mind to warnings. Just like today, she thought. She had been warned not to go near the lake. It was dangerous, her customers said. Girls shouldn't go around those woods alone, they exclaimed. Though whether or not they were scared for her or scared for themselves, she hadn't the faintest notion. Regardless, she dismissed the warnings. Purely superstition, she thought. The mutants were all like her and those customers. Those strangers. They were all human, she thought. Just with ... stranger qualities.
The blonde girl ventured out to the lake, looking quietly at the little flowers and shrubs that lined the lake's edge. It seemed harmless enough. Did she dare? She did. Nayely bent over, peeling her white (though by now they were far from it) ballet flats off her small feet. She set them down next to her as the girl moved to sit down. This was relaxing, she thought. How could anyone possibly think this was dangerous? But it was then that she heard the noises. Cracking an eye open, the florist had been more than relieved that she had found another person's company instead. Though, he (presuming it was one) was on the other side of the lake.
Nayely wasn't quite educated on lake etiquette. Did that mean she was supposed to to go over and say hi? Or was she expected to get up and leave? Ah, there were so many rules to society these days. She sometimes wished she were a child again. Those had been simpler times. What was that? She thought, observing the small yellow balls drifting on the surface of the lake. Strange. Was he littering? She frowned, puffing out her cheeks in frustration. She'd have to give him a piece of her mind. Littering was bad for the environment and-- did that just move. One had wandered off on it's own it seemed. The girl bent down, looking quietly back at the duckling. The bird said no words and neither did she. It ruffled it's tiny little feathers before nearing the girl a bit more. Strange. Was that boy carrying around ducklings then? For no particular reason?
Strange. Definitely strange. Though, she supposed she couldn't be one to talk. She brought flowers and dirt with her every where she went. Regardless, the young woman bent down and picked the duckling up before walking to the other side of the lake. She bent down quietly, nudging the stranger in the shoulder. "Excuse me. Is this yours?" She said, smiling slightly. It was a cute little duck, she thought. She wished she could have one.

Or mutants. This girl may not have extra appendages or tentacles sprouting from her back, but she very well could be a mutant. But, really, did he care? He was just a civilian who meant no harm to anyone or this lake. He just wanted to play around with his duckies in the water for once. There shouldn't have been anything wrong with that. But this girl- whoever she was- gave off this gentle, comfortable feeling. Meaning Kaizer felt as though he had nothing to be afraid off, especially not when she was carrying a bad little duck in her hands.
Kaizer frowned faintly, slipping little Hermes into the pocket of the coat he wore and letting his little head peek out. The young man- still a child, really- got to his feet and approached the stranger without being afraid. He reached out, plucked the bird from her hands, and held it up into the air. Kaizer's eyes were fixed on the duck and narrowed. "Definitely belongs to me. I don't know what he was thinking just wandering off like that," Kaizer mumbled, sounding almost annoyed. But he was worried. These ducks were all he had and he hated that they could so easily run to strangers, who might not have been as kind as this one. Kaizer's gaze dropped, resting on the girl and observing her with obvious curiosity. "I suppose I can spare a 'thank you.' After all, you didn't kidnap and run away with him."

Though, she hardly believed that was a skill that she could really rely on. After all, being annoying just sped the process up faster. But she doubted that the stranger would attack her. She had done nothing wrong after all. She had even taken it upon herself to return the little duckling. She definitely deserved a couple brownie points for that, right? Right.
Was that really how you were supposed to handle baby ducklings? She only looked quietly as the other plucked the small bird out of her hands. "Maybe he was trying to go on an adventure." She replied. She certainly had wandered off more often than she could think of as a child. It couldn't be helped, she thought. Children had a natural curiosity about the world. Wouldn't baby animals be the same way too?
It was obvious he cared greatly for these ducklings, she thought. It was the same way with her flowers, although Nayely supposed it was an easier task to manage flowers. Flowers, after all, didn't move. "Oh, no need!" She replied. "I mean. I would have run away with him." Pause. "You know. If ducknapping wasn't a federal offense." Nayely added, laughing a bit at her own joke.
"Are they your pets?" She asked simply. It was strange, the blonde thought. Her eyes lingered on the small box that had been abandoned on the ground for a moment before returning her gaze to the other. It was strange to just happen to find a bunch of baby ducks in a box and then decide to release them into a lake without them being your pets, right?

Yama was busy chopping some wood near the lake, minding his own old-business, when he peered across the lake, with his super eye-vision that old-age has had no effect on what-so-ever, to see a young man sitting alone... with a duck.
"Oui... the young sitting alone with no social capability to the point they'd rather talk to ducks. What has this world come to!?"
At that moment Yama began to dawn upon a surreal fact...
"Wait a second, I live alone on a lake where no one knows i exist! (*whiny*) You keep talking to those ducks, sonny!" |
Again, another fact shrouded over Yama's heroic statement... "I am talking to myself. Splendid." (*tears streaming*) Yama shook off the disappointment and began to go back to work chopping that wood. He could remember back in his adolescence when he'd wonder off to the lake side just to catch his breath from the world around him. A gentle smile grew underneath his thick mustache. A few moments later he found himself in a bit of sweat and unbuttoned his favorite yellow shirt to reveal an outrageously fit figure... it was merely one of those "what the hell" moments. After catching the breeze, he looks back over to the boy to see a young lady approaching him with one of his ducklings. Yama dives into the bushes next to the shore and peeks his head out. Oh, things were getting interesting in his eyes. Hell he was 72, he'd find a kid chasing a butterfly just as amusing. You can't judge him!! "Hmm, the kid could use some pointers. Maybe I should go over there and introduce myself as Grandpappy Yammy! Or just Mr. Yama, that works too."Suddenly this great idea stuck Yama in the heart with fear. It has been years since he's spoken to anyone, and if he had spoken if was in some high-and mighty riddle speak for his pupil. "What an idiot" comes to mind when he thinks of him.. ahem. But his resolve was strong. He was ready. A smirk wiped across his face as if he were going to battle with the fiercest of foes. Finally, Yama took off on a wicked sprint across the top of the water of the lake! Once making it over he looks at the two and with his manly, rugged voice screams, "HI! MY NAME'S MR. YAMA AND I LIVE ON THIS LAKE. DON'T LET THE LOVE DIE! OKAY, THEN, HAVE A NICE DAY, GOODBYE! COME VISIT SOMETIME!! Ahahahaha!"With that Yama sprinted away into the nearby forest with his legs and arms flailing like an idiot. Once in the comfort of the forest he brings his elbow up and down, 'score'! "HaHa! My social skills are as great as ever. And here this whole time I was worried." Yama began to walk away, chest pumped out in confidence until yet another fact dawned upon him. "I didn't even get their names.(*tears stream*) Oh, well. These parts of the city can be dangerous. It's best that I keep an eye on them from afar just in case anything were to happen. Besides, no one wants to talk to a geezer like me. Ahahaha...(*sudden self-pity*) ► OOC: Sorry for the random cameo intrusion, it was simply to give the characters an idea that someone was living upon the lake without totally ruining the one-on-one you guys are having. Apologies! [/style]
