Sometimes, she wondered what would happen if she fell into the river.
It wasn't as though she intended on throwing herself to the rapids. Though, she supposed if she were about to be captured. The violent currents would have been more preferable. The stepping stones too were slippery. Dangerous. One mis-step and there they would have been gone. The river made a good barrier between them and the rest of the world, though. As she now realized, it was an extreme hindrance to them as well.
So. She had decided to take it upon herself to build a bridge across the river. It felt as though it stretched for miles now that she stood there armed with nothing but a box of nails, a hammer, a measuring tape, rope, paper clips, wood, and some paper. The woman had decided upon making a rope bridge. It was easier than making an arch one. That required laying down concrete supports and unless she was willing to go and swim down there (which she was not), it wasn't going to happen.
Ambrosine had crossed to the other side carefully before setting to work. She hammered two of the thicker pieces of wood into the ground. That's where she'd tie the ropes, she thought. That was what you were supposed to do. Or at least. That was what she hoped. She hadn't completely read through the book that held all directions for building a bridge. It was too long. And boring. And. She just couldn't be bothered.
Ambrosine tied a loop on the ropes before pulling them over the supports. She tied a support rope on each side, making triangles into the structure. Triangles held the most weight. It was the safest way to go, she thought. She continued knotting the left side of the bridge while she sat on the ground. Minutes turned to hours. It was about her sixth hour of work when she heard something. What was that? She didn't turn around, only staring quietly as the ropes. Loop one, knot. Loop two, know. Loop three, loop four, under loop five, and knot. "What do you want?" She knotted the ropes again before setting the ropes down.
"Come and bother me later. Can't you see I'm busy?" came her curt reply.

The day was perfect for hiking. A little fresh air and some exercise went well together. The extra exercise was an added pro to adventuring out into the wilderness. The real reason Peter had left the city for the day was to visit Lake Miran. It wasn’t like he wouldn’t be missed being one soldier that made up a great army. Besides he had put off visiting the rumored bloody lake for a while. The man had felt a little disappointed he hadn’t found traces of any human body in the waters. On the other hand if he had he wouldn’t have been eager to drink some of the water. Regardless, Peter hadn’t been eager to turn back just yet. He’d spent the day circling the lake and then following the river that led away from it. It had been relatively peaceful despite rebel camp rumors. Nobody had attacked or ambushed him just yet and he doubted anyone would. It wasn’t like he was transporting some sort of bomb on his person or even scouting the forest. He wasn’t even armed except for a water bottle in his jacket. Peter shook away the thoughts. Those were work topics and he was on break. He would think about the flowers or the sky. Hell, even the river was better than work right now. “ I suppose a hike would have been better with a partner.” He mumbled to himself feeling bored with all the bird chirping after a few more minutes of walking. It would soon be time for a break! Glancing at the sky Peter decided he had followed the river long enough. A while longer he’d have to head back and he didn’t want to stray too far away only to get caught in the dark. He suddenly noticed a figure up ahead. Oh good, some conversation. God, he was getting bored listening to nature. Fighting a bear would have been a nice alternative. The man smiled, making a note to come find a bear to wrestle with another day. The soldier must have stepped on a branch or passed a noisy shrub because just as he was about to offer a polite greeting the young woman said something to him. “ Do you have eyes in the back of your head or something?” he asked arching an eyebrow before getting closer. What the hell was she up to? Oh wait. “ Busy with what?” Peter inquired eyeing the materials before glancing at stranger. “ Have you been out here all day doing…this?” he added remotely interested in her project. CDAA7D

The edges of her lips tugged upward at the other's response. She supposed he could say that. Or rather, it was just a matter of the other being too loud on his way here. "You were loud. It wasn't hard to tell." She had yet to turn around, though if she had. Two bullets to the stomach was the way the conversation would have ended. Provided she had even brought a gun. Though luckily for the other, she had not. And even luckier yet, the soldier carried no artillery. Ambrosine picked up the ropes once more and knotted more knots on them quietly. Would they be able to support weight? She could only hope. As long as no one started running across it, it should have been fine. The blonde turned around, glancing at the other absentmindedly. They didn't look dangerous.
Not particularly dangerous anyway. "Can't you tell?" She replied, raising the ropes up so that the other could see. "I'm making a rope bridge for everyone's convenience." Ambi picked up another rope, knotting and tying again. It was a tedious effort and she had been out here for a long time now, she realized. Had she even eaten? Doubtful. She had the bad habit of forgetting to eat once she started a project. She wished the project had been an easier endeavor. But rope was not a piece of technology that she could manipulate to her will. She nodded then quietly, continuing to loop and knot. "I've been out here for almost an entire day now."
"And until I'm done, I'm staying out here too."

He shrugged the comment off. “ I didn’t think I need a reason to be stealthy today. You’re the first person I’ve met all day.” He said glancing back the way he had come. In any other situation he probably would have gotten his ass handed to him for being so loud. “ I didn’t mean to scare you, kid.” The man added, teasing his new companion. Being the only person he had stumble upon all day made him rather interested in the young woman, and so he took the liberty of sitting down next to her as she worked. He nodded in understanding as he received explanations for why she was out in the middle of nowhere. “ Who’s everyone?” he asked glancing around again. Besides them there didn’t seem to be a single human soul for miles. At least he assumed there wasn’t anybody. Maybe it had been the time he had arrived that it was so quiet. “ Don’t you need any help? A rope bridge is still a bridge. Thought it’d take more than one person to make.” The man added looking at the girl’s work so far. “ It’ll get dark soon. Are you planning on working even then?” he added, amused at how focused Ambrosine was on her project. He didn’t see anything other than the materials for the bridge which probably meant she had planned to finish it all in a day, maybe. Peter hoped she wouldn’t mind if he stayed and watched for a while. Besides the stranger was actually chatting with him which was always nice. Especially after a few hours of having to talk to himself. Taking a deep breath, he offered a friendly smile at the river before introducing himself. “ Name’s Peter. How do you do?” CDAA7D
